The 30A Calendar: What Each Month Actually Looks Like

Tourists know June, July, and the Songwriters Festival. Locals know the rest. Here's what a year on 30A actually looks like, month by month, so you know when to come and when to stay home.

January

30A Songwriters Festival weekend is the headline event โ€” the strip is suddenly buzzing in a way it isn't the rest of winter. Water's cold (low 60s), beach walks are crisp and empty, restaurants take reservations easily. The locals' month โ€” and a great time to look at houses if you're buying. Lots of homes that don't move in summer come back on the market here.

February

Quietest month of the year. Sunny mid-60s most days. Mardi Gras parades in Seaside and Rosemary if you want a low-stakes event. Spring breakers haven't arrived yet. Some restaurants close for two weeks of staff vacation โ€” call ahead.

March

Spring break season starts. The strip gets noticeably more crowded weekends. Weather turns warm โ€” 70s by mid-month. Water still too cold for most people but the beach reads as full again. Seafood Festival in late March/early April brings real crowds.

April

Peak shoulder season โ€” arguably the best month of the year. Warm but not humid, water warming, full restaurant scene, no summer crush. Locals plan their out-of-town trips around April because they want to be here.

May

School-trip month. The strip starts to swing toward summer mode. Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of peak season โ€” locals batten down for the next three months.

June - August

Peak. Traffic's tough, restaurants need reservations, parking is a sport. The Gulf water is 80+ and the sunsets are the best of the year. Fireworks every Thursday in Seaside through July. If you're here, embrace the chaos โ€” but plan errands for 6am, beach for 8am, and don't try to drive 30A between 11 and 2.

September

Hurricane month โ€” pay attention to NOAA. After Labor Day the crowds drop hard. Water still warm into late October. Restaurants exhale. Locals call this the secret month.

October

The single best month on 30A. 75-degree days, 70-degree water, empty beaches, full restaurants. If you're visiting for the first time, come now.

November

Snowbirds start arriving from the Midwest. Days in the 60s and 70s, evenings cool. Thanksgiving week is busy in a familial way โ€” different from summer crowds.

December

Festival of Lights in Seaside, ZooLights in Gulf Place, holiday rentals booked solid for the week of Christmas. Two weeks between Christmas and the Songwriters Festival is the year's most peaceful stretch โ€” empty bike paths, sunset bonfires, a chance to actually hear the Gulf.
